Dear Yuletide Writer...

This is my first Yuletide, and as such my first dear yuletide santa letter. I appreciate our shared interest in these fandoms, and I am excited to both write and read. I am also super-duper open to treats.

Generally, I am a lover of angst and edge. Obviously I have limits (my name is ebony dark'ness dementia raven way...), but generally I love angst! I also love:
  • enemies to lovers but in a "total devotion/us against the world dynamics" way
  • any characters who hate each other so much it borders on obsession (i.e. can't live with each other, can't live without each other)
  • unnecessarily complex psychological problems (especially if two characters share them)(!!!)
  • characters who hate/dislike each other working really well together towards a common goal
  • brooding (aka character introspection)
  • characters who are on the brink of suicide (but don't commit it) and their psychology (!!!)
  • characters who are certain they are moral people (and genuinely try very hard to be) but can convince themselves of anything
  • in character characters and canon-compliance (nix sexuality lol let's be real here)
  • that being said, i enjoy a good Jewish headcanon
  • slowburns
  • canon-era-typical homophobia (preferably with a happy ending, but not necessary; I enjoy reading how characters react to/deal with it) (!!)
  • gay in the 80s

I am also open to happy endings! They're not required. Nothing here is required, just things to consider or maybe even inspire.

Generally, I do not want:
  • explicit sex; fade to black/implied is fine
  • mpreg or pregnancy
  • A/B/O dynamics
  • unrequested gender or race headcanons
  • trans headcanons or genderswap
  • second-person POV or reader insert
  • deliberate OOC-ness
  • cancer or any sort of terminal illnesses
  • kidfic (them having kids; prefer no them as kids either unless it's only a short part of the fic)

Fandoms...

Hear Me Cry (1984)

Two high schoolers, the stereotypical nerd and jock, form a suicide pact after discovering they share many of the same sentiments. Craig is the smart, nerdy type with some seriously repressed anger towards his neglectful father; David is the thoughtful and artistic jock treated as a replacement for his dead brother by his uninvolved and narcissistic parents.
I ADORE this short film. For some reason I got totally hyper-fixated on it recently, and I am just obsessed. I even wrote a fandom promo post for it if you'd like to know more about why I love it.
The film is only 29 minutes long (and has no other media attached), so if you have the time I would definitely recommend a watch.

I just really believe there's a lot of potential for really interesting slash and character exploration here.

Some prompt ideas
  • expanding on the suicide pact aspect of it-- why did they pick each other? what's going through their heads? maybe more scenes between them, just exploring their characters.
  • a secret romance type thing... and maybe David lives?
  • dealing with being closeted/discovering your sexuality in 80s high school
  • craig talks david down from suicide (preferably for slash reasons)
  • exploring the nerd/jock 80s stereotype

The Breakfast Club (1985)

Five teenagers stuck in detention all Saturday learn about each other (and how they're not so different after all!).
As with Hear Me Cry, I don't mind if the fic follows the characters through adulthood a little and shows their struggles there. I really just love Brian. Nerdy suicidal teenager in the 80s (I'm beginning to recognize a pattern...). I love a good dork, what can I say?

Some prompt ideas:
  • Brian deals with his suicidal ideation post-breakfast club
  • "What happens Monday" fic
  • Brian throughout highschool, college, and however far you'd like to go in his life: how does he deal with his mental health? What makes his life better? What makes it worse?
  • Brian's relationship with Bender (slash optional; keep in mind 80s homophobia (whether there's a relationship or not))
  • dealing with being closeted/discovering your sexuality in 80s highschool (Brian-centric)

Rope (1948)

I'm totally new to this fandom. I got the idea from a recommendation on the promote your fandoms post. that being said... I'm sort of interested! I think there's a lot of potential for some really interesting exploration into the two main characters, especially considering how gay-coded they both are. I think it would be neat to explore being a closeted gay man in the 40s/50s. Maybe give them a happy ending? Or an alternate timeline where all the murdering is just conjecture? And they're gay for each other nonetheless...

Obviously everything listed here are just ideas and prompts. Please don't feel too constricted. Thank you in advance. Huzzah!
